I don't ever wear only black. Whenever I put on something black, I feel the urge to immediately throw on something light and colorful to avoid the i'm-going-to-a-funeral-look. But I do think all-black is quite a powerful look as long as you mix different textures (in this case a wool cardigan, lace top and velvet skirt).
I think the funeral look you describe can be pulled off if done correctly indeed.

I think it rocks, but on the other hand it can look a bit tryhard but thats just me.
