Au-stra-li-a

A blogger I recently found via Lookbook, Tasha of Wooden Walrus (she's got brilliantly cute hair btw), posted this hilarious list of questions asked by foreigners on an Australian tourist website, and the answers by website officials. It made me laugh really loud, which is always somewhat weird while sitting behind a computer screen:

Does it ever get windy in Australia? I have never seen it rain on TV, how do the plants grow? (UK).

We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.

Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA)

Depends how much you've been drinking.

__________________________________________________

I want to walk from Perth to Sydney - can I follow the railroad tracks (Sweden)?

Sure, it's only three thousand miles, take lots of water.

__________________________________________________

Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a list of them in Brisbane, Cairns, Townsville and Hervey Bay? (UK)

What did your last slave die of?

__________________________________________________

Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? (USA)

A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does not ... oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked.

__________________________________________________

Which direction is North in Australia? (USA)

Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.

_________________________________________________

Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK)

Why? Just use your fingers like we do.

__________________________________________________

Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA)

Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is ... oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Kings Cross, straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

__________________________________________________

Can I wear high heels in Australia? (UK)

You are a British politician, right?

_________________________________________________

Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round? (Germany)

No, we are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter/gatherers.

Milk is illegal.

________________________________________________

I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. (USA)

It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of Gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.

__________________________________________________

I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me where I can sell it in Australia? (USA)

Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.

__________________________________________________

Can you tell me the regions in Tasmania where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy)

Yes, gay night clubs.

I was in Australia in 1969 on R+R, and I want to contact the girl I dated while I was staying in Kings Cross*. Can you help? (USA)

Yes, and you will still have to pay her by the hour.

automne

I made these photos in my and my sister's room. I like to see how even the pixeled pictures made with an old 5mp-camera can be made into quite good shots with Photoshop.

it's lost and i can't seem to find it

What's lost? My creativity. It's gone - drained by too many hours of work, lack of sleep and overall dullness. My social life has been reduced to below zero now that I'm so busy, and I can't seem to focus on anything (for example: I've been trying to write the same paper - for an evil, devil-like teacher who hates me - for at least three hours and I've only typed one page of text). I can't bring myself to make pictures, or draw, or do anything creative at all.

the bigger picture

I don't think Blogspot is the ideal place to have a blog, for many reasons. But what I really don't understand, is how even when you tick the 'Large' box when you upload a picture, it's only 300 pixels wide. Which is just tiny. Other Blogspot users have way larger photos on their blogs, but I can't seem to find how that's done anywhere on the internet. So here's my question: is there anyone out there who knows how to make your pictures show bigger on a blog?

i still believe in fairytales (and so does h&m)

I broke this poor birdie's tail when I used him as decoration in my christmas tree last year. To make it up to him, I've let him spend the whole year on the ivy next to my mirror, instead of in a dark chest.
I spent two-thirds of my winter clothes budget (which was €150, oh luxury...) at H&M. Though they'd been disappointing me lately with lots of shapeless dresses and trashy tee shirt prints, this winter H&M has finally reassured me of its coolness. I bought plaid trousers, a long grey cardigan, the military jacket I'd seen on some blogs but thought they'd never sell here, and the cream-colored (I love the word 'cream-colored'!) top you can see in the image above. I'll post some pictures as soon as I've got more time. Which, by the way, I seem to have less and less of; work, school and some kind of social life seem to swallow all of it and before I know it, another week has passed - kind of unsettling!

this is halloween

Why don't we celebrate Halloween in the Netherlands? It'd be such a brilliant tradition for us to dress up and tell scary stories all night or go to spiderweb-themed parties disguised as Zombie Barbie. But I guess we're just not that into craziness in the Netherlands, and I have to work the 31st of October and the 1st of November anyway, so no Halloween parties for me! Still, I'm going to celebrate it somehow. Like wear black all day and extra-heavy eyeliner, and light every candle in the house, or something.

p.s. the reason that I haven't posted anything interesting off late, is because either Blogger or my internet connection is failing - either way, I can't upload any images! For example, I had a gorgeous vintage Halloween photograph to go with this post, but it's like 300x500 pixels and it still won't upload! How annoying. But as soon as that's sorted, I promise I'll make it up by posting dozens and dozens of images.

The littlest things that cheer me up

Waking up in the morning, knowing you don't have to go anywhere today
Getting a text that wasn't meant for you
When a stranger is wearing a delicious perfume
Red lipstick
Lying in bed while there's a thunderstorm going on
Laughing so hard that you have to sit down
Having a boyfriend who knows how to cook food (cause I don't)
♥ Getting winked at - I know, it's a totally cheesy gesture, but I like it
♥ Finding a piece of clothing at a flee market for €1,-
Being home alone and screaming along with Aerosmith or such
Skipping gym class to eat apple sandwiches at home
Unexpected surprises

The list could go on forever, but I have to go sleep - I have to work early tomorrow morning.
[And this has to be the weirdest picture ever made of me - it wasn't intentional and no, I haven't grown a trunk C:]

hi

Don't you just love when you have your picture taken and you look a hell lot prettier than you are? I do.

you just overdid it

I'm sick and tired of fashion blogs. Sick of hungry-looking style icons with thighs like toothpicks. Tired of all the name-dropping, the head-to-toe designer gear (where's the challenge in that? Is it an art to be able to pick the weirdest things off the runway and call them fashion-forward?), because I know I just can never live up to that - I mean, as much as I'd like to have a Balmain military jacket, I can barely afford the H&M ripoff; and I'd like to own loads of platformed studded enormously high shoes and weigh no more than 50 kilos, but I'll never be high fashion and these blogs kind of started to depress me. So it was time for something new. I've deleted all the skinny, label-loving people's blogs off my Bloglovin', leaving only my favourite ones, and now all I needed was a new inspirational blog, from a normal girl who wears clothes from normal shops, and nonetheless looks absolutely fantastic. And than I saw this girl on lookbook.nu.
She's obviously very pretty, has perfect hair and great style, but she also seems very nice and normal; she could be just a girl in your school, or something. After an overload of heroine chic rich kids a blog like hers is exactly what I wanted to see, and I'll definitely be adding it to my list of favourite blogs, so be sure to check it out.

there'll be rain on someones wedding day today

Today it was rainy, and cold, and so I wore my mother's parka coat to school. It was incredibly warm and not even that ugly. I've always thought I'm not really an autumn person, but I like the colors and, of course, the clothes. And rain does seem very romantic as long as you're holed up inside drinking very warm tea, right?

busy busy busy

God, I've been so busy lately. It feels like my whole week exists only of school, school, school, music, work and sleep. Like, literally. I barely find time to eat. That may also be because I'm horribly sleep-deprived but just can't seem to be able to fall asleep at night - I'm most lively in the evenings: while I'm craving for my bed all day, and finally, at eleven p.m. I'm finally awake, so I go to bed way too late and wake up terribly tired. I should have been a vampire.
