pre-party songs

I'm totally addicted to making iPod playlists, so I've decided to put the ones I make up on my blog sometimes. Here's my playlist for when you're getting ready to go out, as I will be doing tomorrow. The most important thing about pre-party music is, apart from being slightly (or very) electronic, that they've got to have a certain additude (like when The Virgins whisper 'lets get together, and get it on' in One Week of Danger, or the Dandy Warhols claim they'd 'rather be cool than be smart'). In other words; songs that make you feel confident.

almost makes you wish you were old

Advancedstyle has been one of my favourite blogs for some time. It's basically someone who walks about town, photographing fashionalble old people. For some reason, I find the dandy-ish men the nicest; I'd love to dress like an old man all the time! And I just know that when I'm old, I'll dress as crazily (but fashionably of course) as possible, just to make people smile.

the not-so-princess diaries

The best thing about my new school diary, is that it has a replaceable cover. And so I'll be able to change the cover as many times as I like! This is the first one; it's a photograph from a Vogue (or so assume) spread which was based on poems by Roald Dahl. This one reads:

A woman who my mother knows

Came in and took off all her clothes.

Said I, not being very old,

'By golly gosh, you must be cold!'

'No, no!' she cried. 'Indeed I'm not!

I'm feeling devilishly hot!'

Which is brilliant, obviously. I'll keep posting the covers, too.

this will seriously cheer you up

I'd heard before about this phenomenon called flashmobs, but only after an article appeared on Girlscene I started watching videos of them. A flashmob is, according to Wikipedia, a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual action for a brief time, then quickly disperse. In other words, brilliant. This is one of my favourites: two people suddenly starting to dance at Antwerp Central Station, other people joining in, and in the end over 200 people dancing to The Sound Of Music. I can only imagine how funny it would be to just stand somewhere when people unexpectedly start to dance:

I'd really love to participate in such a flashmob, and fortunately they are being held in Amsterdam now too! But I think I'll just wait until I live in Amsterdam, which will be in about a year.

my latest obsession

Ik begin serieus geobserdeerd te raken door Twilight. Nadat ik het boek twee keer had uitgelezen heb ik de film op mijn iPod gezet, en om de één of andere reden kijk ik hem nu elke avond. Het is niet alleen de woeste aantrekkingskracht van vampier Edward Cullen (hoewel dat een groot deel is, geef ik toe); de hele sfeer van de film spreekt me zo ontzettend aan. Het boek was ook al zo fantastisch, hoewel ik moet toegeven dat Edward wel een beetje was zoals één van de dames van gofugyourself.com het beschreef:

"je mag niet van me houden MAAR IK HOU VAN JE maar blijf weg van me MAAR NIET TE VER WEG laat me naar je staren NEE DAT MAG IK NIET DOEN maar ik doe het LAAT ME MIJN GEVOELENS BESCHRIJVEN MET MUZIEK kijk niet naar me TOCH WEL ik ben gevaarlijk TIJD OM TE GAAN GLITTEREN."

...en dat af en toe een beetje irritant werd. Maar afgezien van Edward's moodswings was het boek bar verslavend en romantisch en nu ben ik dus één van de duizenden Twilight-aanhangende tieners. Wat ik nooit had gewild.
